Accra: The head coach of Medeama Sporting Club, Ibrahim Tanko, has attributed his team's defeat against Hearts of Oak to a lack of efficiency in front of goal. The Yellow and Mauves faced off against the Phobians in a highly anticipated Round 34 clash of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season on Sunday.
According to Ghana Web, the match, held at the Accra Sports Stadium, saw Mawuli Wayo emerge as a standout performer with two goals, propelling Hearts of Oak to a commanding 4-2 victory over Medeama SC. Despite the result, Ibrahim Tanko was reluctant to concede that the opposition outperformed his squad, maintaining that his team's loss stemmed from missed opportunities.
'I think it was 50-50. After the first goal, we came back strongly and had all the chances. And then in the second half, the early goal kicked us behind, but still we kept on fighting to the last. They won 4-2, and I congratulate them,' Ibrahim Tanko remarked post-match. He emphasized that his team had fought valiantly despite the setback.
Tanko further shared his plans for the future, stating, 'After the season, we have to sit down and analyse the whole season and then look at the positions we think we need to help us in Africa and the league next season. We are going to do the work.' Medeama SC, who have already secured the title of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, are set to receive their trophy following a coronation match against Holy Stars on Wednesday, May 27.
