Kumasi: The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has directed the Board of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to immediately suspend its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, for two weeks. This decision comes in response to the hospital's controversial announcement regarding the suspension of emergency admissions.
According to Ghana Web, the suspension is effective immediately, following a statement issued by the Health Minister on June 5, 2026. The statement accuses Dr. Baidoo of causing the announcement about the suspension of emergency admissions at the hospital on June 3, 2026.
The statement further reveals that Dr. Baidoo appeared before the Minister of Health on June 4, 2026, where he admitted to acting against the directives given by President John Dramani Mahama. The Minister emphasized that Dr. Baidoo's actions were contrary to the President's explicit instructions.
Additionally, the Minister expressed concern over a media interview conducted by the hospital's Head of Public Affairs Unit, which addressed the issue of emergency admissions. The Minister has requested the Board of KATH to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident within two weeks.
The investigation aims to determine the authority under which the comments were made public on Channel 1 Newsroom and whether it was a management decision to allow the interview.
