Sekondi: The Western Regional Directorate of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has extended its support to the female section of the Sekondi Central Prison. The association donated household supplies and conducted health screenings as part of its annual week celebration activities.
According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative involved screening 22 inmates, which included 15 convicts, four remand prisoners, and three individuals under trial. Mr. Raymond Badu Yeboah, the Second Vice Chairman of the Regional GRNMA, emphasized the association's commitment to showing care and remembrance to the inmates as members of society. The screenings covered hypertension, sugar levels, eye health, weight status, and other conditions to ensure appropriate care and advice were provided.
In addition to the screenings, the inmates received education on personal hygiene. ASP Justina Nana Ahima Woode, the Public Relations Officer for the Female Prison, expressed gratitude to the GRNMA for their support. She also appealed to other institutions to provide logistical assistance to help enhance the technical and vocational skills inmates acquire through the National Vocational and Technical Institute (NVTI).
