GPL Week 8: Hearts, Kotoko Extend Unbeaten Run; Aduana FC Climb Top of League


Accra: Hearts of Oak maintained their unbeaten start to the Ghana Premier League season with a 2-1 win over bottom-placed Basake Holy Stars on Sunday, moving up to third in the standings. Frank Eduku opened the scoring for the Phobians from the penalty spot before Hamza Issah added a second to secure all three points in the week eight encounter at the AAK II Arena.

According to Ghana News Agency, the victory takes Hearts to 16 points, two behind leaders Aduana FC who defeated Techiman Eleven Wonders 1-0 at the University of Ghana Stadium. Charles Kamara struck in the second half to seal the win for the Ogyaa Boys, who leapfrogged Medeama FC following their 1-1 draw against Hohoe United.

Asante Kotoko bounced back from their CAF Confederation Cup exit with a commanding 4-2 victory over Karela United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Hubert Gyau scored twice, while Joseph Ablorh and Peter Amidu Acquah added one each for the Porcupine Warriors. Kotoko have 11 points from five matches and three games in hand.

lsewhere, Berekum Chelsea, Dreams FC, and Bibiani Gold Stars all recorded home wins, while Swedru All Black Stars were held to a draw by Heart of Lions.
