Government views technical and Vocational education crucial for national development

Kumasi- The government is committed to reforming the technical Vocational Education Training system to meet national needs towards skill acquisition and transfer.

Government is therefore pursuing a radical transformation to make it a credible alternative to general traditional education.

Mr Kwaben Adu Amaniampong, an official of the Ghana Skills Development, Ashanti Regional Co ordinating Council, was addressing a five-day seminar for skill trainers in Agricultural Technical Vocational Education Training (ATVET) in Kumasi.

The workshop sought to give practical meaning to the Competency-Based Training in the agricultural sector as one of steps taken by government to guarantee food security and sustainable exports.

Organized and facilitated by the government in collaboration with GIZ of Germany, the workshop was attended by over fifty participants drawn from Ashanti and Bono regions.

Dignitaries who graced the occasion included was officials from GIZ and Ghana Skills Development Initiative (GSDI) to include Dzibodi Ahuma- Advisor, Trade Associations, Leonard Dogby- ATVET.

The Competency Based Training (CBT) workshop which was facilitated by Anthony Amankwah Sarkodie, a Kumasi based CBT Professional, aimed among others, to ensure that participants demonstrated Knowledge and Skills in: Unit Specification, Lesson Planning, facilitation method for CBT,CBT Assessment and CBT Internal and External Verification.

The Competency Based Training (CBT) concept was now a mode of delivery in the ATVET system in Ghana.

The National technical and Vocational drive would rest on the use of the CBT for learners as they progress through the various levels of academic proficiencies.

level 1: National Proficiency I, level 2: National Proficiency II, level 3: National Certificate I, level 4: National Certificate II, level 5: Higher National Diploma (HND), level 6: Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech), level 7: Master of Technology (M. Tech), and level 8: Doctor of Technology (D. Tech).
