Accra:Dr Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Club Licensing Committee, emphasized the need for increased government investment in football to exert influence over the GFA's decision-making process.
According to Ghana Web, Baah-Nuakoh highlighted that the voting structure within the GFA gives significant influence to club officials, complicating government efforts to control decisions without financial involvement. He stated, "He who pays the piper calls the tune," underscoring that without investment, the government cannot expect to wield power.
He elaborated that the majority of voters in GFA elections are club officials, whose choices align with club interests. Thus, government investment is crucial for influence over football governance.
Baah-Nuakoh questioned the rationale behind expecting club owners to align with government preferences without investment, particularly in light of demands for GFA administrative changes and calls for dissolution after the Black Stars' lackluster start in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. He noted the challenge of government intervention conflicting with football associations' independence.
