Tema, Bishop Marcus Wiredu, Founder and Overseer of The Golden Lampstand Ministries, has affirmed that good parenting is a responsibility of everyone, not just the biological or foster parents.
He said parents might have given birth but the responsibilities of training the children fell on the multitude; “it is everyone’s responsibility to parent a child or children, be them yours or not”.
He said when the child was not trained well, he did not only become a nuisance to the parents, but the society as a whole; “to have a society of noble people, we need to work together in the training up of the children”.
In the celebration of the 2022 Father’s Day church service, Bishop Wiredu, who is also the founder of Hopefield Bible College, speaking on the theme: “Parenting Responsibility,” called for proper understanding of God’s mandate invoked not only on parents but the entire society to take care of the children.
He stated that a lot of people were celebrated during times like Father’s Day not because they were their parents, but due to the role, they played in the lives of children.
He, however, advised parents to train their children using the word of the Lord, quoting from Isaiah 54:13 that “And all thy children [shall be] taught of the Lord, and great [shall be] the peace of thy children (KJV)”.
He mentioned that it was therefore a must for parents to train children in the Lord to help them grow to become responsible people in society as the Bible instructed.
The General Overseer said, “Good parenting is not only about giving them a good life but also showing them the way through the Word of God”.
For a peaceful home and society, he said parents should involve the Word of God in the training of their children.
Bishop Wiredu, however, cautioned ‘you can be a father but not a parent, so know your responsibility and do them well through the Word of God’.
