Gomoa potsin: Chiefs and local leaders from the Gomoa East District have called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fulfill a campaign promise to upgrade the district to a Municipality, citing the area's population growth as a key factor. The appeal was made during a press conference organized by the District Assembly in partnership with the Traditional Council. According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Kwesi Addo II, Gyaasehene of Gomoa Potsin Traditional Area, emphasized the need for the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to consider Gomoa East District for elevation. He highlighted that the district's population size justifies its qualification for municipal status, which would facilitate development projects in underserved communities. Nana Addo urged the President to act on his promise before his tenure concludes, ensuring equitable development across the traditional area. Mr. Geoffrey Payin Inkumu, the Presiding Member of the Gomoa East District Assembly, expressed gratitude to Pres ident Akufo-Addo for the establishment of the district in 2018 but noted that further elevation is warranted. In September, it was revealed that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development listed 13 districts for upgrade, yet Gomoa East was not included, despite its significant population of over 309,000, ranking fourth among 261 assemblies. Mr. Inkumu argued that both the population size and the district's extensive geographical spread, covering areas such as Dampasi, Nyanyano, Gomoa Buduburam, and Effutu, necessitate additional administrative resources. He also called upon the Electoral Commission to create more electoral areas to alleviate the workload on the assembly's 12 members. The local leaders remain hopeful that the President will fulfill his commitment to the district's advancement.
