Accra: The Gomoa Central District Assembly has adopted strategies to improve revenue collection to enhance development in the district. The strategies include revenue staff motivation, provision of logistics, and maximum security to enable officers to perform their duties. Mr. Hackman Aidoo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), made this known at the Assembly's last meeting at Gomoa Afransi.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Assembly exceeded its revenue target of GHC1,374,221 budgeted for 2025, collecting GHC1,175,955.99, which represents 85.6 percent as of December 19, 2025. Mr. Aidoo condemned an assault on a female revenue officer by a community member and emphasized the constitutional requirement for citizens to pay tolls and taxes. He assured revenue officers of 24-hour security and warned of prosecution for attacks on officers.
Mr. Aidoo highlighted development projects, including drilling boreholes, providing overhead polytanks, and extending piped water to communities like Hill City at Gomoa Asebu. The Assembly has awarded contracts for a 24-hour market and school furniture to boost economic activities and education. Projects to source food items from industrial zones for value addition were also mentioned.
On education, the DCE commended the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Mr. Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, for distributing items to needy but brilliant school children. The DCE expressed concern over the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, where only 46.3 percent of public school candidates passed, compared to 67.9 percent from private schools.
The DCE urged the Assembly's Management to reshape inner roads to enhance transportation in the district. Mr. Asare Obeng mentioned that the government had awarded the Winneba-Junction to Agona Swedru road contract, but financial constraints delayed the contractor's presence on-site.
Regarding employment, Mr. Asare Obeng noted that 24 people traveled abroad last year under the government's working abroad agenda, with plans to send more constituents abroad in 2026. He announced a free zone enclave in the constituency to generate jobs and boost economic activities. Additionally, 9,000 bags of fertilizers were distributed to farmers to enhance agricultural yields.
Mr. Asare Obeng secured 150 scholarships for tertiary students to pursue degree courses, aiding their development into responsible adults. Mr. Ernest Quarm, the Presiding Member for the Gomoa Central District Assembly, expressed concern over the non-inclusivity of Assembly members in projects undertaken by the MP. He urged Mr. Asare Obeng to include Assembly Members to ensure district development.
