Accra: The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the commencement of the renewal process for gold trading licences, outlining new eligibility requirements for licence holders whose permits are due to expire within the next three months. In a public notice dated May 25, 2026, GoldBod stated that the renewal process officially began on Monday, May 25, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the notice signed by GoldBod's Director of Compliance emphasizes that all renewal applications must be submitted exclusively through the official GoldBod online licensing portal. As part of the renewal process, licence holders will be required to meet minimum trading volume thresholds within the preceding 12 months.
Under the new criteria, T1 Licence holders must record a minimum trading volume of 2 kilograms (2kg), T2 Licence holders must achieve at least 5 kilograms (5kg), and Self-finance Aggregator Licence holders must meet a minimum trading volume of one metric tonne within the same period. GoldBod further indicated that applicants must remain fully compliant with the terms and conditions of their existing licences and must not have breached any regulatory or licensing obligations.
The statement added that in addition to the above, applicants must have remained in full compliance with the terms and conditions of their existing licences and must not have been in breach of any applicable regulatory or licensing obligations. The Board also noted that licence holders who submit their renewal applications and pay the applicable fees may continue operating while awaiting final approval.
The notice explained that where a renewal application is duly submitted and the applicable renewal fee has been paid, the licence holder may be permitted to continue trading pending the final determination of the renewal application by the GoldBod. Meanwhile, GoldBod mentioned that it reserved the right to request additional information or documentation during the assessment process and urged all licence holders to ensure timely compliance with the new requirements.
