Accra: GhanaWeb has recently unveiled the list of nominees for the 2025 Edition of its prestigious annual GhanaWeb Excellence Awards, highlighting individuals who have made significant contributions in various fields, including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
According to Ghana Web, the nominees for the STEM category are renowned figures who have demonstrated leadership and innovation in their respective domains. Among the nominees is Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, a prominent Ghanaian academic and biomedical engineer known for her pioneering work in biomedical engineering education and her dedication to STEM advancement in Africa. She has made history as the first woman to serve as the Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana and has been a long-standing Quiz Mistress for the National Science and Maths Quiz.
Another notable nominee is Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse, a climate scientist and educator at the University of Ghana. Her contributions to climate science, particularly within the West African context, have been instrumental in promoting sustainable development and policy engagement. Her nomination emphasizes her commitment to scientific excellence and national development.
Ethel Delali Cofie, an IT professional and technology consultant, is also among the distinguished nominees. As the founder of Edel Technology Consulting and a founding member of Women in Tech Africa, she has championed digital inclusion and female empowerment in the tech industry. Her work has been pivotal in driving digital transformation and ICT development across Africa.
Additionally, Ato Ulzen-Appiah, a social entrepreneur and civil engineer, has been recognized for his efforts in youth empowerment and civic engagement. As the Director of the GhanaThink Foundation, he has led initiatives that promote volunteerism and skills development among young Ghanaians, contributing meaningfully to national development.
Kofi Genfi, co-founder of Mazzuma and Utopia Technologies, is celebrated for his contributions to fintech innovation and digital commerce. His work in advancing financial technology solutions has been crucial in enhancing financial inclusion and supporting enterprise growth in emerging markets.
