Accra: Ghana's Black Queens have seen a diverse array of leadership at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals since their debut in the competition in 1998. The team has been guided by eight different head coaches throughout their history in the continental tournament.
According to Ghana Web, the journey began with the late Emmanuel Kwasi Afranie, who led the Black Queens to a runners-up finish at the inaugural edition in 1998. Following Afranie, P.S.K. Paha took the helm, achieving a third-place finish in 2000 and a runners-up spot in 2002.
Isaac Paha continued the legacy by securing a bronze medal in 2004 and another runners-up finish in 2006. Kuuku Dadzie was appointed for the 2010 African Women's Championship, overseeing Ghana's campaign during that period.
Yusif Basigi managed the team in the 2014 and 2016 editions, concluding his tenure with a bronze medal victory over South Africa in the third-place playoff of his second tournament. Former Asante Kotoko coach Bashir Hayford then led the national team at the 2018 tournament hosted by Ghana.
Swiss coach Nora H¤uptle became the seventh coach to guide the Black Queens at the WAFCON finals, helping them secure a third-place finish at the 2024 tournament. Most recently, Swedish coach Kim Lars Bj¶rkegren took charge for the 2026 tournament in Morocco, marking the eighth head coach for the team at the finals.
While other coaches, including Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, have contributed in interim or qualification roles, these eight coaches remain the official leaders during the Black Queens' appearances at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations finals.
