Accra: Ghanaian rapper Edem has revealed his lack of enthusiasm for birthday celebrations, opting instead for quiet reflection.
According to Ghana Web, the award-winning musician sees his birthdays as an opportunity to express gratitude for life rather than hosting parties or making public announcements. Speaking in an interview with Godwin Namboh on TV3 on May 19, 2026, Edem stated that he often chooses to stay low-key on his special day.
Edem emphasized that his primary focus during such times is appreciating the gift of life, which he considers fundamental to everything else. "Most importantly, I'm always grateful for life because without that, nothing else really matters," he stated.
As Edem's profile has grown, his team has encouraged him to mark his birthdays more publicly as part of maintaining his brand. "Over time, my team is always pushing for some celebration. Once you become a brand, it's like you must make everything a big deal," he shared.
The rapper also offered his perspective on age and maturity, suggesting that true understanding of life begins after turning 18. Edem described a 20-year-old as merely a "two-year-old adult," asserting that real comprehension comes much later in life.
According to him, the ages of 35 to 40 mark a period where individuals have accumulated enough experiences to fully understand themselves and navigate life confidently. "That's when you would have grown to become an adult to really understand life. By the time you pass 35-40, for me, is when you've gathered all the experiences from those 18 years," he said.
Edem added that by this stage in life, individuals are better equipped to start their life journey, understand personal preferences, and build meaningful relationships, considering everyone else an acquaintance.
