Amman:Ghanaian musician and former University of Ghana Student Representative Council (UG SRC) President, Maradona Yeboah Adjei, popularly known as Guru, has expressed confidence that he could unseat sitting Members of Parliament in the Ayawaso, Nkoranza South, and Nkoranza North constituencies should he decide to run for office.
According to Ghana Web, Guru highlighted his achievements during his tenure as SRC president, claiming they demonstrate his ability to bring about significant development in any constituency. He emphasized that his social interventions and developmental projects have garnered him substantial political support in these areas.
Guru stated that if he were to contest for a parliamentary seat in Ayawaso, Nkoranza South, or Nkoranza North, the current MPs would have little chance of winning against him due to the strong support he has built. He asserted that the people in these constituencies would choose him over other candidates because of the work he has done there.
The musician also defended his leadership skills by citing several welfare initiatives he led during his time as SRC president. These initiatives included providing food for students, addressing a water crisis by constructing boreholes, and advocating for a 25% reduction in school fees through legal actions.
Guru argued that if he could implement such policies in a year as a student leader, he could achieve more significant results in a four-year parliamentary term. He believes that his support base in these constituencies is strong enough to ensure his success if he decides to run for MP.
Having made a notable transition from a mainstream hip-life artist to a successful SRC president, Guru is among several Ghanaian creative figures who have moved into parliamentary politics, leveraging their public popularity and grassroots activism.
