Glasgow: Team Ghana has faced several challenges at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, as the competition heats up. So far, six athletes representing Ghana in boxing, swimming, and athletics have been eliminated after falling short in their respective events.
According to Ghana Web, Isaac Botsio, a sprinter, was eliminated from the men's 100m event after finishing fourth in Heat 9 with a time of 10.40 seconds, missing out on automatic qualification for the semi-finals. In boxing, Ramatu Quaye lost in the Round of 16 to Canada's Wall Amber-Jane via unanimous decision, suffering three knockdowns during the fight. Ebenezer Ankrah was narrowly defeated by Scotland's Nicholas Delvin in a 3-2 split decision. Abdul Wahib Omar faced a heavy defeat to England's Patris Mughalzai in the Men's 65kg category, losing 5-0 on the scorecards after two knockdowns. Nancy Bamfo also exited the competition after losing by unanimous points to Northern Ireland's Nicole Clyde in the women's 54kg Round of 16. Adelaide Dede Djabatey was eliminated after losing by unanimous decision to Fiji's Jasmine Duanakamakama.
In swimming, Nubia Adjei finished eighth in Heat 4 of the women's 50m butterfly with a time of 30.02 seconds, while Unilez Takyi competed in the men's 50m backstroke, finishing seventh with a time of 27.13 seconds, just missing out on qualification despite entering the event with a 26.66-second mark.
Despite these setbacks, some athletes from Team Ghana continue to excel, with Zinabu Issah notably securing a silver medal in her event.
