Accra:The Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana have expressed their disapproval of the government's decision to suspend the enforcement of Regulation 141 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2026 (L.I. 2519).
According to Ghana Web, the group issued a press release on October 9, 2026, voicing disappointment over the suspension and demanding the immediate enforcement of the regulation. They emphasized that enforcing Regulation 141 is essential for ensuring passenger safety and comfort.
The operators have made it clear they will resist any efforts to suspend the regulation. They stated, "No preaching or hawking will be allowed in our vehicles," underscoring their commitment to upholding the rule within their transport services.
The government's suspension of Regulation 141 follows public debate concerning the provision, which bans preaching and hawking in public and commercial vehicles while they are moving. The regulation stipulates penalties that include fines ranging from 10 to 50 penalty units, imprisonment for up to eight months, or both.
The statement from the Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana, which included signatures from National Chairman Asonaba Nana Owiredu, National PRO Yaw Barimah, and Charles Danso of the Ghana Committed Association, reaffirmed their dedication to enforcing this regulation in their vehicles.
