Kasoa:The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has taken decisive action by shutting down several unregistered accommodation facilities in Kasoa and its surrounding areas. These facilities were found to be operating without the necessary licenses, in violation of the Registration and Licensing of Food, Beverage and Entertainment Enterprises, 2016 (L.I. 2238).
According to Ghana Web, the enforcement exercise followed repeated warnings issued to operators to register their facilities. Despite these notices, operators reportedly failed to comply, prompting the GTA to intervene.
Richard Agyenim Boateng, the Accra West Regional Director of the GTA, emphasized that operating without registration and appropriate licensing is illegal. He cautioned that operators who attempt to reopen their facilities without fulfilling legal requirements may face prosecution. The exercise aims to enforce tourism regulations and ensure the safety and satisfaction of guests using these facilities.
The closure of these unlicensed facilities is part of the GTA's broader efforts to ensure that accommodation providers comply with the country's tourism regulatory framework. The Authority is encouraging operators of short-term rental facilities, including those offering Airbnb services, to complete the registration and licensing processes to align with national standards and protect visitors.
