Accra: Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has confirmed Ghana's readiness to collaborate with other African nations to establish a continental digital trade corridor. This initiative aims to strengthen cross-border commerce and enhance digital integration across the continent. Speaking at the 3i Africa Summit on May 6, 2026, which focused on 'Innovation, Investment, and Impact in Africa's Fintech Ecosystem,' she emphasized that Africa's youthful population and the rapid adoption of technology position the continent well to influence the next phase of global digital growth.
According to Ghana Web, emerging markets will play a crucial role in shaping the future of digital development, especially in sectors such as cross-border trade, agriculture, health, education, and public service delivery. Vice President Opoku-Agyemang announced that Ghana will work with Rwanda, Zambia, and other partners to pilot a continental digital trade corridor.
She explained that the pilot project will be implemented, tested, and evaluated, focusing on areas such as mobile money interoperability, mutual recognition of digital identity for cross-border Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, and harmonized electronic invoicing systems. The Vice President stressed that this initiative is part of broader efforts to deepen digital economic integration and improve trade efficiency across Africa.
She added that Ghana is dedicated to ensuring that regional integration efforts move beyond discussions in Accra and are effectively implemented in partner countries.
