Accra: The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) continued its strong growth through the end of May 2026, driven by a massive surge in trading activity and high investor returns. Market transactions skyrocketed by 347.09% compared to last year, reaching a total of 89,945 transactions. The market's year-to-date volume jumped by over 500% to more than 716 million shares, valued at over GHS3.4 billion.
According to Ghana Web, both major stock indices posted significant gains. The GSE Composite Index climbed by 63.67%, while the Financial Stock Index saw an increase of 68.99%. Several companies experienced major price increases, particularly in the energy and pharmaceutical sectors, although the banking and consumer goods sectors faced declines.
ZEN Petroleum Holdings PLC led the list of biggest winners with an 86.81% rise. Intravenous Infusions PLC followed with a 60.00% increase, and Clydestone (Ghana) PLC saw a 27.50% gain. Other notable gainers included Fan Milk PLC, Hords PLC, Atlantic Lithium Limited, and Societe Generale Ghana PLC.
Conversely, Ecobank Transnational Inc. was the biggest loser with a 36.24% drop. Other companies facing declines were CalBank PLC, Ghana Commercial Bank PLC, SIC Insurance Company PLC, and Access Bank Ghana PLC, among others.
The Ghana Fixed Income Market also experienced significant growth, with trading volumes rising 39.30% year-on-year to reach 26.56 billion. Government Notes and Bonds accounted for 53.38% of the total volume, Treasury Bills for 46.54%, and Corporate Bonds for a mere 0.08%.
