Takoradi: The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled has expressed regret over the neglect of physically disabled individuals, particularly during festive seasons.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Courage Wormenor, the National President of the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled, highlighted the disparity in support during festive occasions, noting that physically disabled individuals are often overlooked. While speaking in Takoradi, he pointed out that various groups receive substantial aid during celebrations such as Sallah and Easter, but the physically disabled community remains marginalized.
Mr. Wormenor emphasized the lack of essential items such as wheelchairs and mobility aids, contrasting it with the distribution of rice, sugar, and poly tanks to other groups. He remarked on the "deafening silence" regarding the needs of those who require these aids the most, urging society to recognize and address this oversight.
He called upon churches, mosques, and communities to acknowledge the presence of the physically disabled within their midst, urging them to provide the necessary support to help these individuals navigate life's challenges. The National President urged society to prioritize inclusivity and accessibility, advocating for a shift in focus towards supporting the disabled community.
Mr. Wormenor further appealed to Ghanaians to abide by the teachings of Jesus to uplift the marginalized. He called on leaders, Members of Parliament, Imams, clergy, and families to advocate for the needs of the disabled, emphasizing that they deserve empowerment and support beyond mere acknowledgment.
