Accra, Ghana: Ghana is on track to operationalize fully-fledged open university campuses by September of the following year, announced Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education. This initiative aims to modernize the education sector in the country and provide flexible learning options for students.

According to Ghana News Agency, the open university initiative is part of the government’s broader reforms and innovations to modernize education. Emphasizing the predominance of online learning in this model, he remarked that the COVID-19 pandemic had underscored the effectiveness of virtual learning. The Minister also mentioned a collaboration with a UK university providing technical support for this project.

During the closing of the 2023 National Education Week held in Accra, Dr. Adutwum shared details about the upcoming project. He indicated that prospective students would have the option to engage in online courses from home or utilize the campuses for research purposes. The event served as a platform for stakeholders in the education sector to discuss various challenges and opportunities.

Additionally, the Ministry of Education is developing virtual high schools where students can enroll in online classes. Dr. Adutwum highlighted the global prevalence of virtual high schools and expressed confidence that these schools would offer valuable opportunities for people to advance their education while managing work commitments.
