GHANA: KINTAMPO WATERFALLS RE-OPEN AFTER TRAGIC DEATH OF 18 VISITORS

ACCRA, Ghana Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has re-opened the Kintampo Waterfalls in the Brong Ahafo region after several months of closure.

The waterfalls were shut for renovation following a disaster that struck on March 13, leading to the death of 18 people and injuring 20 others.

A severe rainstorm caused trees at the edge of the waterfall to fall on visitors. Most of the people who lost their lives were students of Wenchi Methodist School.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr Bawumia said measures have been implemented to prevent any of such calamity in the future.

He said the waterfall is a gift from God and must be taken care of.

He, therefore, expressed hope that the MoU to be signed by the Chiefs, the Kintampo Municipal Assembly and the Ministry of Tourism would specify shared responsibilities in the management of the falls.

He commended stakeholders for the successful completion of the falls.

On her part, Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts, Catherine Afeku outlined various security measures introduced at the falls to ensure safety.
