Accra: The government has increased the financial reward for Ghanaian athletes who win gold medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, according to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams. Adams revealed that gold medallists will now receive $10,000, representing a significant increase from the $2,000 reward offered at the previous Commonwealth Games.
According to Ghana Web, the Sports Minister stated that the decision aims to motivate Team Ghana athletes as they compete on the international stage. He also disclosed that he would personally pledge an additional $1,000 bonus to every athlete who secures a gold medal at the Games.
The Minister emphasized that Ghana's representatives have received adequate preparation ahead of the competition, dismissing concerns that the team was not properly supported. The government invested in a comprehensive preparation programme, including a training camp in Ghana before the athletes moved to Belfast to complete their final preparations.
