Accra: Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has clarified that the state will not cover travel expenses for Executive Council members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Adams emphasized that government support will be limited to key officials involved in team administration.
According to Ghana Web, Adams explained in an interview with Asempa FM that while the government will not fund the travel of Executive Council members, it will cater to the General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, GFA President Kurt Okraku, and members of the Management Committee. He underscored the necessity for these key officials to be fully supported as they head into the tournament.
Ghana, holding four African championship titles, is set to participate in their fifth World Cup appearance. Drawn in Group L, they will compete against England, Croatia, and Panama. The Black Stars are scheduled to kick off their campaign against Panama on June 17, followed by a match against England on June 23, and concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
Preparation for the tournament is underway, with the team led by coach Carlos Queiroz planning international friendlies against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
