Sekondi-takoradi: The Ghana National Gas Company is conducting a free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal exercise for residents within its operational districts in the Western Region. The initiative is set to benefit 20,000 residents and began on March 11, 2026, with an expected completion date of April 10, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the exercise is being carried out in the districts of Jomoro, Ellembelle, Nzema East, Ahanta West, Prestea Huni-Valley, Mpohor, Shama, and the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. Anlimah Woku Henry, the company's Assistant Manager for Community Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility, praised CEO Judith Adjobah Blay for her commitment to improving the welfare of residents through this health initiative.
Henry explained that the program is designed to increase access to primary healthcare by enrolling more residents in the NHIS, as part of the company's corporate social responsibility efforts. "As a responsible corporate company, we seek to enhance the healthcare of our people within our operational areas. That is the reason why we are embarking on this exercise," he stated.
Furthermore, Henry assured that the company plans to undertake extensive infrastructural development in areas such as health, education, and sanitation within its operational communities. He encouraged residents to fully participate in the ongoing NHIS registration exercise to benefit from improved healthcare access.
Henry also highlighted that this is the first time a CEO of the company has led such an ambitious project to enroll 20,000 people onto the NHIS within a year, describing it as unprecedented. Residents like those in Akabaku have expressed gratitude towards the CEO and the company for easing the process of obtaining NHIS cards, which previously required costly travel to other towns.
Some beneficiaries commended the Ghana Gas Company and its CEO for prioritizing their health needs and expressed hopes that the company would continue to support the community in future endeavors.
