Ghana Football Association Faces $500,000 Payout After Otto Addo’s Dismissal

Accra: The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to pay a significant sum of $500,000 to former head coach Otto Addo following the termination of his contract. The decision to dismiss Addo came after the national team suffered losses in friendly matches against Austria and Germany.

According to Ghana Web, Otto Addo had initially signed a three-year contract with an option for a 24-month extension when he was appointed on March 15, 2024. Despite the promising start, the team's performance under his leadership led to the abrupt termination of his contract. The GFA announced the decision on March 31, 2026, expressing gratitude for Addo's contributions while planning for future steps regarding the technical team's management.

The termination, while welcomed by fans eager for a change, has imposed a financial burden on the GFA. The $500,000 payout is expected to be covered by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, reflecting the government's role in financing the Black Stars. The GFA, despite being at the forefront of managing the team, relies on government support for financial matters.
