Binduri: The Ghana Armed Forces has announced the killing of 7 "unknown elements" in a shootout at Binduri in the Upper East Region. The confrontation took place when the unknown assailants attacked a convoy of 140 civilians that the army was protecting from Bawku on Monday, April 27, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the shootout resulted in the deaths of three civilians who were being escorted by the military. The army's statement, issued on the same day, detailed that the military managed to kill 7 gunmen and arrest 10 others, recovering several firearms and ammunition in the process.
The statement from the Ghana Armed Forces explained, "A Ghana Armed Forces escort convoy protecting 140 civilians was attacked this morning, Monday, April 27, 2026, at Binduri by unknown elements. The convoy from Bawku towards Bolga was shot at several times, resulting in the death of 3 of the civilians being escorted and injuring one."
"In the process, the military successfully repulsed the attack on the convoy, resulting in the death of 7 assailants. In pursuit, the military discovered and retrieved from an escapee who went to a mosque a G3 automatic rifle, 2 filled magazines of 20 rounds each, and 176 rounds of additional ammunition. Ten other suspects were arrested and are assisting with investigations," the statement continued.
The Ghana Armed Forces concluded their statement by cautioning the public to avoid confronting military or security services during operations. It also extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
