Dawhenya: The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, recently visited the Agri-Impact Group's greenhouse enclave in Dawhenya. The visit marked the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at bolstering Ghana's agricultural sector and decreasing its reliance on food imports. The 120-acre complex, managed by Fresh Logistics Limited, a subsidiary of Agri-Impact Group, serves as a center for modern vegetable production.
According to Ghana Web, the CDS was accompanied by senior officers from the Special Projects Committee under his office. The delegation toured the facilities to observe the production techniques and post-harvest handling. Lt. Gen. Agyapong highlighted the importance of collaboration, stating that the partnership with Agri-Impact was a step towards significantly reducing the national food import bill.
Lt. Gen. Agyapong relayed a directive from the late Minister of Defence, Dr. Omane Boamah, to explore partnerships for reducing the national food bill. He expressed optimism that working together with Agri-Impact could lead to success. Dr. (h.c.) Daniel Fahene Acquaye, CEO of Agri-Impact, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the company's readiness to utilize its resources, networks, and expertise to support the Armed Forces and the nation.
Dr. Acquaye also acknowledged the contributions of the Mastercard Foundation, Ghana EXIM Bank, and the Danish and Spanish Embassies in advancing Agri-Impact's agricultural initiatives. He called for further collaboration between public and private institutions to expand greenhouse production and strengthen agricultural value chains across Ghana.
Through support from Ghana EXIM Bank, Agri-Impact has launched the Youth in Greenhouse Enterprise Project (YUGEP). The initiative aims to drive import substitution and create large-scale youth employment through commercial greenhouse vegetable production and marketing. Graduate entrepreneurs receive financial and technical support to operate greenhouses nationwide, with Fresh Logistics facilitating market access.
