Accra: Former Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has criticized the Ghana Football Association for what he terms irrational expectations following Ghana's defeat to Germany, which led to his dismissal in March. Speaking to German football outlet 11Freunde, Addo disclosed that the federation terminated his contract without any official explanation just 72 days before the 2026 World Cup, despite him successfully securing Ghana's qualification for the tournament.
According to Ghana Web, Otto Addo expressed that judging his tactical project based on narrow friendly defeats to elite European nations like Germany was flawed. The former Ghana international described the working environment under GFA President Kurt Okraku as volatile and highly reactionary, with internal pressure making it nearly impossible to build a stable, long-term team. Addo stated, "I still, to this day, haven't understood the reason. The expectations from our federation president were simply too high." His sacking followed a 2-1 friendly defeat to Germany in Stuttgart and a 5-1 loss to Austria.
