Accra: Ghana Football Association (GFA) Director of IT, Francis Adu, has highlighted a significant transformation in the nation's football administration, unveiling how digital advances have redefined player registration and data management across all tiers of the sport.
According to Ghana Web, the experienced IT administrator shared insights on the GFA Podcast, hosted by Patrick Akoto, about the remarkable shift from manual, paper-based registration to a comprehensive digital database that now encompasses the entire football hierarchy in Ghana. Adu emphasized that the introduction of advanced technology, backed by FIFA and international development partners, has ensured that all registered footballers are integrated into the system.
"Every player in Ghana is captured in our database from juvenile level to the senior ranks," Adu noted, underscoring the breadth of the digital transformation. He explained that the current system marks a significant departure from past practices where registration was fragmented and primarily focused on the top divisions of Ghanaian football.
Previously, the emphasis was on the Premier League and Division One, but the scope has now broadened to include district-level football. This expansion is regarded as one of the most notable successes of the GFA's digital reforms, enhancing talent identification, player tracking, and administrative transparency and efficiency.
Adu further pointed out that the integration of the FIFA Connect system has been instrumental in this progress, facilitating real-time registration and international data sharing among football associations. With this system, clubs can now register players directly from their secretariats, with data immediately updating to a centralized database accessible to FIFA and its member associations globally.
The GFA IT leader also mentioned that this innovation has not only boosted operational efficiency but also fortified the integrity of Ghana's football framework, minimizing duplication, improving eligibility checks, and ensuring accurate player documentation at every level.
