GFA Parts Ways with Otto Addo After Consecutive Defeats Against Germany, Austria

Accra: The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the departure of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo. This comes after Black Stars suffered back-to-back friendly defeats against Germany and Austria. According to Ghana News Agency, the GFA expressed its gratitude to Otto Addo for his contributions to the team and extended best wishes for his future endeavors. The association's statement also mentioned that it plans to disclose the new technical direction for the Black Stars soon. Otto Addo was reappointed in March 2024 for a second tenure as head coach, having served in the role previously in 2022. During his second term, Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup but failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. In his previous stint, Addo balanced his national team responsibilities with a talent development position at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. He resigned from the Ghana job in December 2022 following the Black Stars' group stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. With FI FA's deadline of May 30, 2026, looming for national teams to finalize their squads, the GFA faces pressure to appoint a new coach in the coming days.
