Heilbronn: German police are investigating several individuals over potentially insulting remarks posted on Facebook during Chancellor Friedrich Merz's visit to the south-western city of Heilbronn last year, a police spokesman revealed on Monday.
According to Ghana News Agency, the incident began when police utilized Facebook in October to announce a one-day flight ban associated with Chancellor Merz's visit to Heilbronn, a city situated to the north of Stuttgart. The announcement triggered hundreds of responses, with numerous users directing their displeasure at the chancellor because of the flight ban.
A police spokesman noted that some of the comments were 'offensive in nature,' specifically mentioning the term 'Pinocchio' as one of the insults directed at Merz. As part of their duty, police have sifted through the comments under the post to identify any that might be relevant under criminal law. The spokesman emphasized their obligation to pursue any initial suspicions of criminal offenses further.
