GCB Bank Boosts Black Stars’ World Cup Preparations with GHS5 Million Donation

Accra: GCB Bank PLC has donated GHS5 million to support the Ghana Black Stars as they prepare for the FIFA World Cup 2026, underscoring the Bank's commitment to sports development and national unity.

According to Ghana News Agency, Professor Joshua Alabi, the Board Chairman of GCB Bank, emphasized the Bank's belief in investing in the aspirations and talents of Ghanaians, including sports development. The donation was presented during a ceremony at the Bank's Head Office, attended by senior officials from the Bank, football administration, and government. Prof. Alabi expressed confidence that this contribution would significantly aid the national team's preparations and overall success.

Ghana finds itself in Group L of the first-ever 48-team World Cup. The Black Stars are set to face Panama in Toronto, Canada, on June 17, England in Boston, USA, on June 23, and Croatia in Philadelphia, USA, on June 27. Prof. Alabi stated that GCB Bank is proud to support Ghana's participation in the tournament, which is a moment of national pride and unity. He highlighted football as a unifying force across ethnic, political, religious, and social backgrounds in the country.

The donation of GHS5 million reflects GCB's commitment to national development beyond banking and finance.
