Hohoe: Togbega Gabusu VII, the Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area and President of its Traditional Council, has emphasized that the annual Gbidukor Festival should serve as a catalyst for improving education and the welfare of citizens. He highlighted that such a transformation would significantly contribute to the development of the area's divisions.
According to Ghana News Agency, Togbega Gabusu made these remarks during the launch of the 31st Gbidukor Festival held in Hohoe, located in the Volta region. He stressed the importance of unity in the event, urging all residents to collaborate and support the traditional authorities to ensure a successful celebration. The Gbidukor Festival, an annual cultural reunification event, rotates between the people of Gbi-Dzigbe (Hohoe) and Gbi-Nyigbe (Peki) in Ghana's Volta Region.
The festival launch centered around the theme: 'Transforming lives through the Gbidukor Education Endowment Fund.' Mr. Kingsley Freelove Amu, Chairman of the National Steering Committee, stated that the festival's objective is to review the past year's performance and strategize for future developments. He announced that Hohoe would host the four-day event from December 4 to December 8, 2026, and encouraged residents to maintain the festival's enduring bond, emphasizing that 'Gbidukor is here to stay.'
Mr. Amu also noted the previous year's project launch at Peki, which focused on the Gbidukor Educational Fund aimed at mobilizing financial resources to support education within the two areas. Togbe Appiah Kwadzo VI, speaking on behalf of Deiga Kwadzo Dei XII, the Paramount Chief of the Peki Traditional Area, remarked that the launch served as a reminder of the area's history, renewing bonds and reaffirming identities. He encouraged the elderly to pass their knowledge to younger generations to sustain the area's history and development.
The festival will include various activities such as an entrepreneurship challenge, table tennis tournament, Miss Gbi pageant, inter-school quiz competition, Gbidukor Strongest competition, a health walk, and a joint service in Hohoe. Additional events include the Gbidukor Development Forum, a youth conference, community cleanup, creative poetry sessions, a photo walk street carnival, a cooking competition, a cycling marathon, a Borborbor parade, and an awards night.
