Ga Mantse Advocates for Equitable Healthcare Access

Sanaa:Greater Accra The Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Nii Teiko Tsuru II, emphasized the need for a healthcare system in Ghana that ensures access to medical treatment for all citizens, irrespective of their financial status. He highlighted the importance of preventing poverty from dictating the outcomes of health and survival.

According to Ghana Web, King Nii Teiko Tsuru II urged the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) to prioritize maternal healthcare improvements as part of broader efforts to enhance access to essential medical services. His remarks came during a visit by GMTF Administrator Obuobia Darko-Opoku to the Greater Accra Region, which was part of the Fund's nationwide sensitization tour.

Ms. Darko-Opoku noted that families in Greater Accra face significant financial challenges when caring for relatives with non-communicable diseases. Her statement spotlighted the economic strain on households dealing with chronic illnesses and underscored the necessity of improving healthcare accessibility for patients unable to afford treatment.

Dr. Robert Amesiya, the Greater Accra Regional Director of Health Services, urged the public to "jealously guard" the Fund, highlighting its role as a vital resource for enhancing healthcare access. Additionally, Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo expressed the region's commitment to supporting the initiative.

This engagement is part of the GMTF's broader efforts to raise awareness of its mission and garner public backing for initiatives aimed at alleviating healthcare costs for patients and families.
