Accra: Motorists across Ghana are set to face higher costs at the pumps as several Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have increased fuel prices, a shift likely to impact transportation expenses and the costs of goods and services. A market survey conducted by GhanaWeb Business on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, indicates significant variation in fuel prices among major OMCs, with petrol prices ranging from GHS14.53 to GHS16.29 per litre, and diesel prices between GHS16.50 and GHS18.13 per litre.
According to Ghana Web, Star Oil offers the most affordable petrol price at GHS14.53 per litre, while diesel is priced at GHS16.97. Allied Oil presents the lowest diesel price at GHS16.50 per litre, with petrol priced at GHS15.50.
Zen Oil lists petrol at GHS15.05 per litre and diesel at GHS18.13, marking the highest diesel price among the surveyed retailers. TotalEnergies and Shell both set their petrol prices at GHS16.29 per litre and diesel at GHS17.49 per litre, with the petrol price being the highest recorded in the survey. GOIL's prices stand at GHS15.99 per litre for petrol and GHS17.26 for diesel.
These price adjustments are anticipated to add financial strain to consumers and businesses, especially transport operators heavily dependent on fuel for their operations. Fuel prices in Ghana are regularly reviewed under the nation's petroleum pricing framework, with OMCs modifying pump prices based on global crude oil prices, refined petroleum product costs, fluctuations in the Ghana cedi against the US dollar, as well as taxes, levies, and distribution expenses. Consequently, changes in international oil markets and exchange rate dynamics continue to affect domestic fuel prices.
