Freetown: Mr Stephen Afrieye, the Assemblyman of the Freetown Electoral Area in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region, together with the electorate, have come together to repair a broken bridge at Akporsor Kordzi, a suburb of Kadjebi.
According to Ghana News Agency, the exercise, which brought together men, women, and youth of the community, was organised after residents endured years of difficulty accessing the area, especially during market days and emergency situations. Mr Afrieye stated that he personally contributed GHS1,860.00 towards the purchase of cement, iron rods, and other construction materials to support the project.
He added that a resident, popularly known as 'Old Soldier,' also supported the initiative by donating 16mm iron rods towards the fixing of the bridge. The Assemblyman noted that the decision to embark on the self-help project became necessary as repeated appeals to the Kadjebi District Assembly to fix the bridge had not yielded results.
'We could no longer wait while the bridge continued to pose danger to schoolchildren, farmers, and traders who use it daily. The community decided to take its destiny into its own hands,' he said. Residents expressed appreciation to Mr Afrieye for his leadership and commitment, describing the initiative as a clear demonstration of responsive grassroots governance.
