Former Black Stars Defender George Blay Laid to Rest in Private Ceremony in Maryland

Accra: Former Black Stars defender George Blay has been laid to rest in a private funeral ceremony attended by close family members in Gaithersburg, Maryland, in the United States.

According to Ghana Web, a video circulating on social media and shared by SIKAOFFICIAL1 on July 19, 2026, captured solemn scenes from the burial, with family and loved ones gathering to pay their final respects to the former Ghana international.

Blay represented Ghana's senior national team between 2000 and 2002, earning seven caps and scoring one goal during his time with the Black Stars. The former right-back was also a member of Ghana's squad for the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations after earlier featuring for the Black Satellites at the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship.

His contribution to Ghana football earned him recognition among fans, particularly for his commitment and versatility during his international career.
