Former Black Stars Captain Advocates for Ceremonial Matches for Legends

Accra:Andre 'Dede' Ayew, former captain of the Black Stars, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to organize ceremonial matches for retired national team players who have excelled in their careers, as a way to honor their contributions to Ghanaian football.

According to Ghana Web, Ayew emphasized that legendary players like Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah deserve recognition for their achievements, which have left lasting legacies. He insisted that the GFA should take the initiative to organize such events, rather than waiting for the players to request them.

Ayew, speaking on the Obi One Podcast, highlighted that neither he nor other former players should feel compelled to demand these matches. He stated that it is the responsibility of the football association to acknowledge the sacrifices and dedication of these players, who have represented the nation with distinction.

He further expressed that organizing ceremonial matches would be a gesture of gratitude from the GFA, recognizing the hard work and sacrifices made by the players during their careers. Ayew stressed the importance of respecting and appreciating the efforts of these athletes, who have competed despite injuries and challenges, for the pride of the nation.
