Accra: The Federation of Muslim Women's Associations in Ghana (FOMWAG) has called for inclusive economic policies, ethical leadership, and renewed commitment to national values as Ghana marks its 69th Independence Day. It emphasized the need for equitable access to opportunities and the empowerment of citizens, particularly women, youth, and vulnerable groups, to contribute meaningfully to national development.
According to Ghana News Agency, FOMWAG issued a statement in Accra to commemorate the Independence celebration, themed 'Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.' The organization urged the government, policymakers, and stakeholders to prioritize inclusive economic policies that expand opportunities for women and marginalized communities. It highlighted that restoring hope requires justice, accountability, good governance, and strengthened national cohesion through tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and respect for diversity.
The statement noted that Independence Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made to secure freedom, dignity, and self-determination for the nation. It is also a moment for reflection on the collective responsibility to translate that freedom into shared prosperity and renewed hope for every Ghanaian, especially women, children, and vulnerable groups.
FOMWAG emphasized that sustainable prosperity cannot be achieved without the full participation of women, who play vital roles in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, peacebuilding, and community development. Investing in women and girls is seen as a strategic pathway to national progress.
