Asueyi: Fire has destroyed about sixty acres of cocoa and cashew farms in Asueyi, a farming community in the Techiman North District of the Bono East Region, impacting the livelihoods of 35 farmers.
According to Ghana News Agency, the fire outbreak occurred on Friday, January 30, 2026, with unconfirmed reports attributing the cause to activities of hunters. Mr. Mohammed Adamu, the Techiman North District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), visited the affected farms to assess the damage. He informed the agency that NADMO was preparing relief items for the farmers.
Mr. Adamu stated that the farmers would receive support to replant and restore their farms to sustain their socio-economic livelihoods. Fire volunteers have increased public awareness on bush fire prevention, and Mr. Adamu warned hunters and palm wine tappers against setting fires during the harmattan season, emphasizing that offenders would face prosecution.
He urged chiefs, queens, community leaders, and assembly members to enact and enforce byelaws on bush burning to ensure environmental sustainability.
