Accra: A fire has destroyed a 30-bedroom house in Nkawie, located in the Atwima Municipality of the Ashanti Region, rendering numerous occupants homeless and causing significant property loss.
According to Ghana Web, the fire erupted around 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026, and quickly consumed the building, giving residents little time to salvage their belongings. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire spread rapidly, forcing the occupants to evacuate as thick smoke filled the air.
Although the residents escaped without any injuries, they lost clothing, documents, appliances, furniture, and other personal items. One resident expressed despair, stating, "Everything we have worked for is gone. We could only save our lives."
The Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly to the emergency call, working diligently to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. Their efforts were successful in controlling the blaze after several hours, avoiding a larger catastrophe in the densely populated area.
While no casualties were reported, the cause of the fire is still undetermined. Authorities have begun investigations to ascertain the factors that led to the incident. The affected individuals are now seeking assistance from government entities, philanthropists, and the public to help rebuild their lives.
