Accra: The Upper West Regional Football Association (RFA) has expressed optimism that the Black Stars will secure victory over Colombia in the Round of 32 clash at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup. The RFA believes that the Black Stars have shown remarkable improvement in their performances and have the potential to defeat the South American side.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Peter Issah, Vice Chairman of the Upper West RFA, stated in an interview that although the encounter might be challenging, Ghana is expected to emerge victorious. He expressed hope that the Black Stars' performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup would surpass their historic quarterfinal finish at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, potentially reaching beyond the semifinals.
Mr. Issah commended the national support for the team, noting the increased enthusiasm for football across the country. He highlighted that many women have joined the fans in watching the late-night World Cup matches. He urged supporters to continue rallying behind the team ahead of Saturday's match, believing that their encouragement will motivate the players to deliver a strong performance.
Mr. Ibrahim Foriko, a football enthusiast in Wa, also expressed confidence in the technical direction of the team. He praised the coach's tactical approach and noted that the players have demonstrated the confidence and determination needed to overcome Colombia. He emphasized the importance of the fans' presence and high energy as an essential extra force on the field.
Mr. Iddrisu Polibu, known as Coach Asprilla, a football administrator in the region, encouraged the players to seize the opportunity presented by the World Cup to advance their football careers. He expressed confidence that the team would maintain its tactical discipline to secure qualification to the next stage of the competition. He urged fans to sustain their strong support, suggesting that the team should either win in regulation time or defeat Colombia on penalties if needed.
