Father Remanded in Custody Over Assault Charges in Central Region

ASSIN FOSU: A 48-year-old man, Abraham Amoh Blankson, has been remanded in police custody by the Assin Fosu District Court after being charged with assault and causing harm to his 20-year-old daughter. The court's decision comes as the authorities continue to investigate the incident that allegedly began over a damaged padlock. According to Ghana News Agency, the prosecutor, Inspector Matilda Osaah Buabeng, requested additional time for police investigations into the matter, leading the court to remand Blankson. The incident reportedly took place in Old-Praso, a suburb of Twifo Praso in the Central Region, where Blankson resides with his daughter, Esther Amoh Blankson, a hairdressing apprentice. Inspector Buabeng detailed the events leading up to the assault in court. On Saturday night, after returning home late from work, the victim discovered that her father had changed the door lock. When she sought access to the house, her father allegedly instructed her to return to where she came from. Frustrated, Est her broke the padlock to gain entry. This act reportedly angered Blankson, who later discovered the damaged lock and threatened his daughter with physical harm. The situation escalated when Esther found her father had taken GHc360.00 from her handbag. When she demanded its return, Blankson allegedly refused, insisting she would get her money back only after replacing the padlock. The refusal led to a confrontation, during which Blankson is accused of whipping his daughter with an electrical cable, causing bodily injuries. The court, presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, has scheduled the next hearing for Thursday, October 24, to allow further proceedings in the case.
