Eric Tinkler Appointed Asante Kotoko Head Coach Ahead of New Season

Accra: Asante Kotoko director of football, Stanley Menzo, announced that the club has made the right decision by appointing Eric Tinkler as their new head coach for the upcoming 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season. The South African coach takes the helm following a challenging campaign where Kotoko failed to make it into the top four.

According to Ghana Web, Tinkler, known for his previous roles managing teams like Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City, has been entrusted with the task of elevating Kotoko back to the upper echelons of Ghanaian football. Menzo expressed confidence in Tinkler's ability to lead, citing his history of building competitive teams as a testament to his capabilities. "We appointed the best coach we could have. He has built clubs to a high standard," Menzo stated during an interview with the club's official media.

Tinkler has already started working with the squad as the team aims to overcome last season's setbacks and pursue significant achievements in the new season. Currently based in Accra, the team is intensifying its preparations for the 2026/27 season. Their readiness will be put to the test in the upcoming 2026 Democracy Cup, where they are set to face their fierce rivals, Hearts of Oak, in a fixture highly anticipated by fans and analysts alike.

This match will serve as an early platform for Tinkler to evaluate his squad in a competitive setting as he embarks on his journey with one of Ghana's most esteemed football clubs. Additionally, Asante Kotoko will kick off their 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign with an away game against Debibi United, marking the beginning of what they hope will be a successful season under new leadership.
