Peki-dzake: Presbyters of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), have been urged to uphold holiness, integrity, and servant leadership to preserve the Church's spiritual heritage and strengthen its Christian witness.
According to Ghana News Agency, the call was made at the opening of the 18th Retreat and Leadership Training of the West Volta Presbytery Presbyters' Union at the E.P. Seminary in Peki-Dzake. The theme of the event was 'Embracing Holiness: The Presbyter's Call to Cleanliness and Integrity.'
Delivering the keynote address, Togbe Dzeha III, Twafohene of the Peki Traditional Area and Dufia of Peki-Dzake, emphasized the role of past missionaries, church elders, catechists, pastors, and traditional leaders in spreading the Gospel through their sacrifices and dedication. He highlighted that the Church's foundation was rooted in God's power and guidance, urging current leaders to protect this spiritual legacy.
Togbe Dzeha stated that holiness extends beyond physical cleanliness and maintaining church buildings. It includes purity of heart, honesty, transparency, accountability, faithfulness in marriage, and integrity in leadership. He urged presbyters to demonstrate consistency and lead by example, referencing scriptures such as 1 Peter 5:3 and 1 Peter 1:15-16.
Presbyter Samuel Dagadu, President of the West Volta Presbytery Presbyters' Union, described the annual retreat as essential for spiritual reflection, leadership development, and capacity building. He encouraged presbyters to address challenges like declining commitment, irregular attendance, financial constraints, and internal divisions.
Rev Michael Kungu, Moderator of the Western Presbytery, called on presbyters to be the 'light of the world' and the 'salt of the earth,' praising their sacrificial commitment to the Church's growth and stability. He urged them to use the retreat to renew themselves spiritually and enhance their leadership skills.
Togbe Deiga Kwadzo Dei XII, Paramount Chief of the Peki Traditional Area, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the need for continuous learning and personal development in leadership. He commended the Presbyters' Union for maintaining the retreat for 18 years and expressed confidence in the positive impact of the knowledge gained during the retreat.
