Enhanced Security Measures Introduced at Accra International Airport

Accra:Passengers traveling through Accra International Airport will now need to undergo luggage screening at the entrance to the departure hall, as announced by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

According to Ghana News Agency, the pre-screening checks will be conducted by the Narcotics Control Commission at the departure hall entrance, using scanning machines and sniffer dogs as part of enhanced security measures.

Travelers are advised to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled departure to accommodate time for security screening, check-in, and boarding procedures. Access to the departure hall is restricted to traveling passengers only, with non-travelers denied entry.

GACL expressed appreciation for passengers' and airport users' cooperation and understanding as they work with security agencies to ensure safe and efficient airport operations. In July, GACL implemented new security screening equipment at Terminals 2 and 3 to enhance security and passenger convenience.

The upgraded technology allows passengers to keep laptops and large electronic devices in their cabin baggage and retain their shoes and belts unless additional checks are necessary. The system includes an Automatic Tray Return System to expedite the process, reducing waiting times.
