Ellembelle: The Member of Parliament for the Ellembelle Constituency in the Western Region, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has donated 50 bags of cement, a football, and a set of jerseys to support the construction of a new Junior High School (JHS) building for Onsonyameye in the Ellembelle District. This gesture comes after a courtesy call by a delegation from the community, including the Odikro, CBE facilitators, CEA officers, and elders, who presented their educational needs under the Complementary Basic Education (CBE) programme.
According to Ghana Web, Western Regional Correspondent, Daniel Kaku, who visited Onsonyameye, noted that the current school structure, accommodating kindergarten to Primary Six, is in a dilapidated state, creating a challenging learning environment for both students and teachers. Community members have voiced their concerns that children completing Primary Six are forced to travel long distances to access Junior High School education in nearby areas.
With the 2026/2027 academic year slated to begin in September 2026, parents and community members are urging other institutions, including the Ghana Gas Company, to provide assistance in building a JHS facility. This facility is deemed essential to accommodate pupils who have completed Primary Six, preventing them from enduring long commutes to continue their education.
During the donation event, the District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, Joseph Armah Agyekum, committed GHS10,000 as seed money to initiate the construction of the new school building. He also encouraged the educated youth in the area to participate in the upcoming Youth in Education programme, emphasizing the District Assembly's role in supporting community needs.
The Odikro and community elders expressed their gratitude to both the MP and DCE for their prompt response, acknowledging the donations as a significant contribution to education in Onsonyameye. Facilitators of the Complementary Basic Education programme highlighted that this initiative would inspire learners and encourage more out-of-school children to enrol. Both the MP and DCE reiterated their dedication to supporting self-help projects that enhance education and development in the district.
