Accra: Mr. Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for Effia in the Western Region, has provided educational materials to support more than 600 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates who have been admitted into Senior High Schools (SHSs) within the constituency.
According to Ghana News Agency, the items distributed included metal trunks, mattresses, exercise books, and school bags. Additionally, the top ten best-performing students in the BECE received cash prizes. During the distribution ceremony held at Effiakuma, Mr. Boamah-Nyarko emphasized that this initiative is part of his commitment to nurturing the aspirations of young people as they embark on their SHS journey.
Mr. Boamah-Nyarko stated that the goal is to ensure that no child from Effia begins their SHS experience feeling disadvantaged due to a lack of basic necessities. He expressed that this initiative is a testament to his belief that the future of Effia is closely tied to the quality of education provided to its children. He highlighted the importance of his office being involved not only in legislation and parliamentary debates but also in addressing the everyday needs of the people he represents.
The MP mentioned that the donation is part of a larger educational agenda aimed at investing in education to cultivate scholars and technocrats needed for the development of the Effia constituency. He assured that he would continue to leverage available resources to support the education of young people, laying the groundwork for realizing the Effia dream.
However, Mr. Boamah-Nyarko expressed concern about the declining academic performance of students in the area and called for collective efforts from all stakeholders to develop effective strategies to address this issue. He encouraged the beneficiaries to view the support as motivation to take their SHS education seriously and avoid behaviors that could compromise their future.
Mrs. Gloria Biney-Gontor, the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Director of Education, applauded the MP for his generosity, noting that the materials would alleviate the financial burdens on parents and assist BECE graduates in transitioning smoothly to senior high education. She urged the students to focus on their studies and avoid negative influences.
Parents interviewed by the Ghana News Agency praised Mr. Boamah-Nyarko for his intervention, stating that the support allows them to allocate their limited resources to other necessary items to adequately prepare their children for school.
