Education Ministry Praises Unions for Halting Strike

Accra:The Ministry of Education has praised three teacher unions for suspending their nationwide strike after negotiations with the Government and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).

According to Ghana News Agency, the Ministry described the unions' decision as a positive move towards addressing unresolved issues through dialogue, mutual understanding, and constructive engagement, benefiting both teachers and learners.

A statement released on Friday and signed by Mr. Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Ministry, reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to collaborating with the unions, FWSC, and other stakeholders to address outstanding issues and enhance teachers' welfare.

The unions, comprising the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG), began their strike on September 25 due to the Government's failure to address their conditions of service.

The Ministry emphasized its dedication to ensuring stability and continuity in quality education delivery while working to resolve the unions' concerns. It also expressed gratitude to teachers, parents, learners, and other stakeholders for their patience and resilience during the industrial action.

The statement urged all parties to maintain cooperation and good faith to build on the progress achieved through negotiations. It reiterated the Ministry's commitment to fostering industrial harmony and creating an environment where teachers are valued, supported, and empowered to contribute significantly to Ghana's education transformation agenda.
